The former Mayor's house and its immediate surroundings were to be comprehensively restored. The main stipulation was for the historic building to be enclosed and made into the cultural centre of a new commercial centre. This project proposed adding another peripheral structure to the existing peripheral buildings to facilitate the superimposition of a spacious glass roof over the courtyard which will rest on the periphery, touching at all points.
As just one among many constructive designs, preference was ultimately given to the variation illustrated here called 'Wing', with a main lattice girder in the long central axis which allows the secondary construction to be relatively light.
